Speaking of TraditionsPosted: 11.28.2011
I forgot to tell you what a picture perfect day Thursday was. Since we did so much prep work on Wednesday night we had a pretty leisurely Thanksgiving morning. Such a gift. Jim insisted on taking Rachel and me for a walk, just as his dad had taken him for Thanksgiving morning walks years ago.
It was perhaps the first tradition we have carried on from the Maddens in this, our young family’s life, and we loved every minute of it. We walked the rugged paths at the local nature center, kicking the leaves around, throwing rocks into the water, then daring to explore the pier. Rachel was such a daredevil, walking back and forth, back and forth, across the pier then onto the dock, then edging her tippy toes right to the edge to get as close as possible. I almost had a heart attack watching her. Then she made her way back onto the pier and ran right across it. Ran! Jim just hurried behind her, cool as ever.
They have way more guts than I do.
Do you have any out-of-the-ordinary Thanksgiving traditions? We used to pick pecans in my grandma’s yard between mealtime and pie time. It’s so nice to get some fresh air after all that food, isn’t it?
Do tell. What are some of your traditions?
